Yesterday Poppy had an appointment at Birmingham Childrens hospital for her regular check up with her neurosurgeon.
She went with her Mummy and Aunty Rachel. The waiting room was quiet being a Saturday (unusual to see a consultant on a Saturday?) They did not have long to wait before being called in. Poppy went straight over to a crocodile toy and said "crocodile".
"Did she just say crocodile?" asked the consultant.
"Yes" Emma said proudly.
Poppy opened the crocodile up to find it was filled with mega blocks.
"Blocks" she said, as she took them out and started to build with them.
"Did she just say blocks?" Emma smiled.
She sang Twinkle Twinkle for the consultant and did all that she should have, and more. No high five though, no way would she give him a high five. After all, she didn`t know him did she?!
Poppy has been discharged from his care, he said she is doing very well, and is doing and saying things far above what she should be doing for either her proper age or her corrected age. Apparently she is the youngest child the consultant has had in his office to say crocodile and blocks at the age of 21 months! (and her corrected age is 19 months) So she has caught up with her age, and more. Not bad for a little girl born 10 weeks early, it could have been so different. Proud of you Poppy. xxx

Beautiful Poppy and her mummy and daddy.
Poppy and her Mummy and Daddy had some photos taken at the community centre this afternoon. She did not want her picture taken at first as she had just woken up and was a bit hungry but as you can see they have come out beautifully!
The dog in the pushchair.
Poppy was so lovely yesterday, apart from an hour and a half sleep in the morning and a shorter sleep in the afternoon she chattered away and was very busy all day!
Gray and I took her to the pet shop to look at the animals, she was very excited. Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit. Guinea, guinea. Fish, birdie. She did not know where to go first or what to look at first! She was not so keen on the chipmunks (I think thats what they were!) one of them was jumping up and down against the glass and she backed away with a startled look on her face and would not go any nearer. She soon cheered up when she saw the fish, she was fascinated and kept pointing at the various fish in the tanks and saying fish, fish. The tarantula (ugh, shudder) became Incy wincy spider and the tortoise was a turtle, we could not see the snakes, they were hiding.
Then she saw a dog, not for sale, it was sitting in a pushchair and being pushed by an old lady! Poppy ofcourse wanted to stroke the dog, "is it okay?" I asked the lady. Yes, she is used to little babies, my granddaughter has a little girl about the same age, she loves playing with her. Poppy stroked the dog very carefully and the dog just sat in her pushchair and ignored her! Bye, said Poppy as we walked away, she had to wave to the lady, and the dog.

Wet bottom!
When Poppy arrived this morning she had a wet bottom. Not because her nappy had leaked but because she had sat in her toy car in the garden while her Daddy was feeding the guinea pigs and the seat was wet! Emma took her dress off, thinking that was the only item of clothing that was damp, only to find the wet had gone through to her vest and tights! Poppy noticed her toast and bowl of melon on the table and clad in just a nappy she climbed up on to the dining chair and sat at the dining table where she proceeded to eat her breakfast good as gold! As she was already tucking in we thought it easier to let her finish eating then get her dressed afterwards!
As it was fine this morning, if a little chilly, Poppy grabbed hold of her wellies and wanted to play in the garden with the seaside (sandpit) so we made some sand castles and played outside for about half an hour before she headed back indoors. We played with her doll house and her petshop for a while before it was obvious she was getting tired, she asked for her dummy and snuggly, a sure sign! I put baby tv on for her and she sat on my knee where she eventually dropped off to sleep for about an hour and a half.
For lunch Poppy ate quite a large slice of pizza (for such a little girl) and a yogurt (Peppa pig ofcourse) then we played in the garden again for half an hour before Grandad arrived, a fact which excited Poppy when she heard his voice! We were going to the playground but she was happy enough playing in the sandpit for a while. She was tired again by 4pm but although she lay on the sofa with dummy and snuggly she did not go to sleep, but she did have a rest until it was time for tea.
She has chattered all day today, apart from when she was asleep, just like her Mummy!

The teddy and the tiara.
The phone rang yesterday morning, I was, I will admit, still in bed reading my book. Sunday morning lie in! It was Emma, ringing from Cheltenham where she was away for the weekend at a hen party asking if I could feed her later! Apparently she had phoned Lee and asked if he could make some dinner for them, to be told that he was going to watch the football later with Graham so why not ring her Mum and ask if I would feed them?! Cheeky! This resulted in us heading off to the shops to buy the ingredients of a roast dinner, incase you are wondering chicken, roast potatoes, home made yorkshire pudding and veg. Emma arrived at 3pm followed very closely by Lee and Poppy but not realising that they would be back so early I had only just put the chicken into the oven so dinner was a little while! Lee and Graham headed off to the pub to the watch the football and Emma, Poppy and I stayed in to play and chat. We got Poppy a toy from the charity shop on Friday, a pet shop and pet beauty parlour, complete with a big bag of assorted animals, not all of them the original animals which would have come with the toy. I had sorted the animals out as some of them were much too small for Poppy, who still tends to put things in her mouth, and would have been a chocking hazard. They are in a bag upstairs safely stowed away for when she is a little older and unlikely to swallow them!
The phone rang and it was Lee to say that his niece Faye was with her Dad and wanted to see her little cousin Poppy so she walked up to the house to spend a couple of hours with us. Poppy was slightly shy for about 5 minutes, but soon her reserve melted and she was playing with Faye with her new pet shop.
Emma, Poppy and I ate our dinner and I put the mens meal aside for them to warm up later. We could not have waited until they returned as the meal time would have been a bit too late for Poppy who was already hungry and asking for her dinner.
Poppy was very pleased with the other toy we got her last week, some Princess shoes and tiara. She was tottering around the room with her little pink plastic high heels on, it was like she was learning to walk again! I took some lovely photos of her, I shall put them on soon. I remember well having play shoes when I was a kid, unfortunately my feet grew rather fast and they did not fit me for long, a fact that I was gutted about! As there were 3 pairs of shoes in the set she has taken one home with her to totter around her own house. The teddy bear who sits on the old basket chair that has recently been mended for Poppy and spray painted white (it was mine when I was born for is quite old) is wearing the tiara. Very nice he looks too!

Rain.
On Wednesday Emma had to take Poppy to the hospital for her regular check up with the consultant who has looked after her since her early entrance into this world. She decided that Poppy is doing so well that she could discharge her from her care as she has already caught up with her prematurity. So she was discharged months early, very good indeed for the little scrap born 10 weeks early weighing only 3 pounds 4 ounces. The consultant was pleased with how many words Poppy knows (it must be well over 100 now), with the fact that she can count up to ten and understands the concept, and that she loves nursery rhymes and can sing twinkle twinkle and baa baa black sheep herself. Poppy can certainly make herself understood most of the time, though there are the odd times she will gabble on and look at you expecting you to know what she has just said!
Yesterday unfortunately it rained all day, and although Poppy wanted to go out into the garden and play with the seaside (sand and water table) the weather was just too bad to venture outside. Luckily we had aquired a plastic dolls house from the charity shop on Wednesday, full of furniture and two dollies with a baby who live there, and Poppy was very happy playing with them for ages. There is even a toilet with a lift up seat which the dollies had to use, complete with sound effects! Maybe Poppy is getting used to the idea and may soon sit on her potty so that she can be free of nappies! I think potty training will start in earnest in the summer holidays! Em says at the moment she likes to sit with her feet in the potty and then she goes and wees (or worse) on the floor!
As the rain was so relentless all day we did not venture out, prefering to stay in the dry and warm, and by the time Emma arrived to fetch her daughter our lounge looked like a bomb had hit it!

Please Mommy, please Grandma. Ah bless.
Pops was really good yesterday, Jill arrived at just before 9.30am and very kindly took Poppy for a walk in her pushchair to feed the ducks, she said she was walking round the lake talking to her about the ducks when she realised Poppy was actually fast asleep! Jill then realised that Pops had dropped her snuggly and had to retrace her steps to look for it. Luckily she located it on the path, slightly muddy but not too bad so that will go in the wash next time I put a load on. Jill and I had a cup of tea and a chat while Poppy slept on, she did not wake up until about 12.30 so had a good sleep which she obviously needed. You can always tell when Poppy is tired, she grabs hold of her dummy and pops it in her mouth then starts to look for her snuggly. She has discovered that her dummy is in the 3rd draw down in the kitchen and goes to find it for herself! Emma only likes her to have it for when she sleeps so I may have to move its location!
When Gray got home we sat in the garden for a short while and Poppy was able to play with the new sand and water table we got her. She was putting the sand into the bucket to make a sandcastle. I half expected her to throw it around the patio but she was very good and played nicely. Huge black clouds started to come over and the wind was blowing, it was getting cold so we decided to go in, Poppy did not want to go inside, she wanted to carry on playing with the "seaside"!! She calmed down when we let her take the new ladybird garden ornament in with her, she loves ladybirds, it looks like her christening cake may be a ladybird! As by this time she was looking tired again we decided to go out for a ride in the car as I needed a couple of things, wondering if she would have a sleep. Fifteen minutes into our journey she was fast asleep and slept for the whole way. When we got home that first thing she said was "seaside" but as it was pouring with rain by that time it was not the best idea! We distracted her with something else and she was fine playing with her farm until tea time.
Poppy was very pleased to see her Mummy when she arrived to pick her up. She showed her the ladybird garden ornament and her new farm animals. She then filled her nappy. She then did something which amazed us both, when she has her nappy changed she likes to watch the Mickey Mouse club on tv so she said "Please Mommy, please Grandma, Mickey" and handed me the remote control!!

Poppy with her Daddy.
A couple more pics taken yesterday, Poppy and her Daddy.
We had a phone call off Em this morning, Lee had gone to work in the car with the pushchair in the boot so she couldn`t go anywhere, could we pick them up? We first went to visit Ste and Rach, its their 2nd anniversary on Tuesday and we had a card for them and some money to buy linen. The second wedding anniversary is the linen anniversary so rather than choose it for them, Rach is particular about her bed linen, we decided the best thing would be for them to choose it themselves. We then headed off to Emmas to pick them up, we had to visit the supermarket and had already asked if they needed any shopping, so the plan was to pick them up and get our shopping together. When we arrived Poppy was asleep, Em had texted me but my phone was in the car and I had not checked it, to say she would ring when Poppy woke. We had a cuppa and chat and waited until Pops woke up and then headed off to the shops. Poppy liked it when she kept seeing us pushing our trolley around the shop when she was sitting in the trolley being pushed by Mummy! It certainly kept her occupied while Em got her shopping anyway!! As Lee had finished work by the time we finished we dropped them off at home before heading off to put our own shopping away. As soon as she got home Poppy was wanting to go outside to play with her new pink Princess car, she loves to be out in the garden!

Two days.
Have not had chance to catch up on the Poppy news this past couple of days, so here goes.
On Wednesday was a visit to Hoo Farm. Unfortunately a rather wet visit so they had to dodge the showers. Poppy went with her Mummy, her Aunty and her two cousins, the little ones had a lovely time and loved all the animals. They saw "baby baa lambs" and quite a few mummy lambs ready to give birth! It was unfortunate that Poppy fell in a puddle and got soaked just before the lamb feeding time so it seemed best to head home and give her a bath otherwise they may have been given the chance to feed a lamb with a bottle of milk. Poppy and Ruby have obviously both been watching too much Peppa Pig as they were having a great time jumping in muddy puddles! Good job they were wearing their wellies!
Yesterday Emma, Poppy and I went over to visit Michelle and the boys. Ryan, Rhys and Owen were very pleased to see us and we had an enthusiastic welcome as always. They all really love Poppy and follow her around to make sure she comes to no harm. My big sis and brother in law were also visiting so we all had a good time chatting and drinking tea! The boys were amazed every time Poppy said a word, "Emma she just said....." being a frequent cry. When the rain finally stopped for a while the children took the opportunity to go outside into the garden for a while and Poppy had a great time being pushed around the garden on a tricycle by Ryan, with the other lads helping, with us looking on and calling "slow down a bit" from time to time! Pops was a very lucky girl as she got to take the tricycle home with her as the boys had outgrown it. She was so worn out she fell asleep in the car on the way back home and Emma managed to get her out of the car very carefully without waking her up and lay her on the sofa where she slept for a further hour! The weather has not been the best this Easter holiday unfortunately, but you make the best of it that you can.

Visiting Daddy.
Lee has been very keen for Emma and Poppy to meet him in his lunch hour near to where he is working on the new stand at the football ground. Emma and Poppy arrived here just before 11am this morning and Em said Lee wanted them to meet him later so when the call came off they went. Unfortunately Vicky and Harrison had just arrived to give Poppy her easter egg so the visit was cut a little shorter than we would have liked, but Em said she will pop round to see them later when they return. As Poppy was very tired, but would not have a sleep, hopefully the trip in the car will be to her benefit as she usually has a sleep with the motion of the car.
Over the Easter weekend we bought a doorstop in the shape of a dog which is sat keeping the lounge door open. Poppy saw it when she came in and patted it on the head saying "hello doggie". Its rather heavy so I did not know if she would be able to pick it up, but she staggered across the lounge with the dog in her arms to show me!
Poppy has had a lovely weekend down at the seaside visiting her Nanny and Dave, she has been on a donkey, telling the donkey to "giddiup horsey", made sandcastles on the beach with Daddy, and knocked them over! She has been on a fair ride which freaked Mommy and Nanny out incase she let go and fell off somehow - she didn`t, she held on tight all the way round, laughing her head off! She has been to a disco, all dressed up in her party dress, at a local holiday camp club. She danced all night, copying the other kids and spinning round, and had a wonderful time. A good time was had by all!

I doubt you ever stop worrying about your kids.
Em, Lee and Pops were travelling down to Torquay yesterday to visit Lees Mum so we took our pushchair round for them to take with them, it is smaller than their own, folds down easier and with all the luggage you need to take for two adults, a toddler and a dog, space is at a premium! Poppy was very pleased to see us when we walked through the front door, "Grandma, Grandad" she cried, huge smile on her face pointing at us to make sure we knew to whom she was referring! Stopped for a quick cup of tea and then headed off as Em was getting ready to give Poppy a quick sandwich before going to pick up Lee from work. After instructions on feeding the rabbit and guinea pigs we headed off to the retail park as we want to buy a firepit for the garden, it will be nice to have a lovely fire burning on a summer evening to sit out and keep us warm. If it ever stops raining that is, and we are lucky enough to get a summer evening or two! We looked at a few places but could not find a firepit or chimenea we want, I have in my mind the kind of thing I want, must be sturdy and must be enclosed enough so that Barney does not set fire to his tail as he walks past!! I had a look on the internet at a couple of places I had forgotten when we got home but some of the comments like the firepit was too flimsy or went rusty after one use put me off a bit.
We had a text about 7pm to say Em, Lee, Poppy and Lily had arrived safely and so "you can stop panicking now" was the message I got by text. Cheeky monkey, me panic? Never! Well maybe just a little! I doubt you ever stop worrying about your kids do you?

Easter Eggs.
Emma had to take Poppy to the doctors this morning for her asthma check at 9am so decided to come round here straight after the visit, they arrived at 9.20 just as I was getting dressed! Poppy had cheered up everybody in the doctors waiting room by waving and smiling at all and sundry! When the doctor had to pull up her vest to listen to her chest she pointed to her tummy and cried "belly button" which are some of her favourite words of the moment! She was not keen on the doctor touching her with his cold hands and his cold stethoscope, the radiator was not working in his room and he had been unable to warm up his hands!
Jill and her girls had Easter eggs for Poppy and so wanted to know if she would be here this morning so they could bring them round for her. Jill arrived about 10.30 after helping a neighbour push the caravan off their drive, ready to go away for the Easter break. Emma and I were watching the antics from the window! Jills girls arrived a little later and so Poppy now has 4 easter eggs to take home, 3 from Jill and her girls, plus some wax crayons and a sketch book to draw in, and one from a very kind neighbour. We gave her Easter eggs to take home the other day, we bought Poppy a Peppa Pig egg with a plate, bowl and spoon set to use when the egg is eaten.
After her busy morning Poppy was getting quite tired by about 11.30 so Emma got her lunch ready and sat her in the highchair with a sandwich. She managed to eat one of her sandwiches before falling fast asleep in the highchair! A combined operation to get her out of the chair carefully without waking her too much ensued and Emma managed to get her lying down on the sofa where she dropped straight off to sleep again. She only managed about an hour before she awoke though she obviously had not had quite enough sleep and was still a little tired when she woke up. She has gone out for a ride in the pushchair with her Mummy, Grandad and the three dogs to feed the ducks, clutching a bag of bread. I wonder if she will have fallen asleep in her pushchair by the time they return.
Emma and I have been looking through my cake decorating books to see which cake we shall be attempting for the christening. She can`t choose between a ladybird, Mickey Mouse, a rabbit, oh dear the list goes on! This could take some time!

Visiting.
Decided to pay a visit to my big sis yesterday as Emma wanted to take the christening invitation for them. Poppy loves to visit her great Aunty Marg, she knows she has a bag of toys out ready for her to play with. As soon as we arrived she had a big grin on her face and said "Aunty Marg" as we walked up the path. Marg had already lined up some books for Poppy and the bag of toys was waiting for her to take her pic in the kitchen. It is so cute the way Poppy grabs her by the hand and off they go together to pick out a toy to play with. Before long the lounge was littered with toys and Poppy was having a whale of a time. Rich arrived home from work and Poppy was a bit shy, for all of about a minute, when she saw Rich, though she soon got over her shyness when a container of biscuits was produced and she got to choose one. She had her hair in pigtails and Rich joked had she been plugged in at the mains as they were standing out to either side of her head! After an hour it was time to go as Marg and Rich were waiting to head off to the shops so after a lightening tidy up session we made tracks for home with one very tired little girl.
When we arrived at our house the first thing Poppy wanted to do was play in the garden, not a good idea as it was not only cold but raining. She was not very happy when we brought her back inside and Emma had to distract her with some toys in the lounge until she forgot about the pull of the great outdoors. It was so nice last week with beautiful warm sunshine, as a complete contrast it was snowing early this morning before turning to rain so ofcourse Poppy could not understand why she should not be able to play out in the garden. Very peculiar weather!

Summer, where have you gone to??
Emma rang to see if we were going to be in yesterday afternoon as she wanted to pop round with Poppy to cheer me up. I have not been too well.
Gray had only just returned from work and no outings had been suggested so I said I did not think we were going out anywhere. Within ten minutes Emma, Poppy and Lily arrived. Poppy delighted to see the dogs, Lily delighted to see Barney, she seems to be in season so was in full flirt mode, leaping around Barney, wagging her tail and showing off!
Poppy soon had a tube of Smarties in her hand, we have just discovered that she likes them. She took a tube home on Friday and Lee rediscovered that he likes them, and decided they are also educational!
"This is a yellow one Poppy".
They also help with her counting,
"how many Smarties do you have Poppy?"
"one, two, three, four, seven, eight, nine, ten,"
she does normally say five and six but for some reason, on this occasion, they got left out!
Poppy kept disappearing and as she can now reach to open the back door was found playing in the garden. The problem is that the weather is not as nice as it was last week and so was a bit too cold to play out without a coat on. Emma came in dithering having chased her around the garden. Poppy was not too pleased to be brought back into the house, though Emma was relieved to be able to get inside! Come on summer, where have you gone to?

Give thanks.
The christening has been arranged, Poppy is to have a joint day with her little cousin Florence, share the costs and share the day which will be good. Emma bought her christening dress yesterday and this morning sent me a photo of Poppy wearing it, how cute! Poppy looks beautiful, a little princess. Emma and I will put our heads together to make the cake for Poppy, the same as Bev will get together with her Mum to make the cake for Florence. We have some ideas but you will have wait and see on the day! It won`t be the traditional christening cake with a cradle on top or some boottees I know that, but then you would not expect that as Poppy will be 22 months when the great event takes place. This day is to give thanks for the wonderful gift of Poppy and her cousin Florence, and we do, every day.
Invitations on the way!
