We were there in force this morning to watch Poppy take part in her first Easter bonnet parade at nursery. Emma asked me if I would like to go a few days ago, Lee was not at work today because of the snow so he joined the party, Sallianne, who looks after Poppy while Mommy and Daddy are at work obviously had to be included too, and Jill, my good friend who comes round to help me when Poppy comes to visit Grandma was included also. Even Grandad popped in for a short while, it was easy for him as he is the caretaker of the building where the nursery is held so he was there anyway, but he was called away after a short time, something to do with his official duties.
As soon as the children entered the room where all the Mommies, Daddies, Grandmas, childminders and Aunties were sitting Poppy saw all the strange faces, then recognised her Daddy and her Mommy and burst into happy tears before rushing over to her Daddy and flinging her arms round him! After a cuddle with various people she sat on one of the very small chairs meant for the nursery helpers before moving to sit on a donut which turned out to be a small plastic cushion ring thing which looked like a donut with a hole in the centre, alongside the other children. A few of the other children had also recognised Mommy, or Grandma, and also burst into tears causing them also to rush over for cuddles and a couple of them refused point blank to sit on the donuts, but wanted to sit on the lap of the person there to watch. The bonnets were wonderfully decorated with a whole array of things, eggs, ribbons, feathers, flowers, little chicks, and Poppy was most put out when one of the eggs fell off her hat, causing her to burst into tears until one of the nursery teachers popped it back on, unfortunately the glue must have dried out because it then kept on falling off again! One of the Moms was elected to strum the guitar and the children sang some songs to do with Easter, involving some of the children in turn to take pictures of eggs from a board and take them "home", and then some of the children had to be ducks for 5 little ducks. We were entertained with songs, even joining in with some of the instrument playing which involved tapping two sticks together and the parade lasted around half an hour altogether. Poppy had an easter card and a little paper basket holding a small chocolate egg to take home with her then we all filed out of the room to fetch coats before saying thank you and goodbye to the wonderful nursery nurses. Poppy gave us a kiss and off she went home with Daddy while Mommy had to go back to work, pleased and proud to have seen her beautiful little daughter take part in her first Easter bonnet parade.

FASTER GRANDMA, FASTER!!
Poppy normally visits me on a Tuesday but today she is at home with her Daddy as she has chicken pox and we are trying to work out her child care until she can return to nursery and her childminder. Tomorrow and Thursday she will be coming to visit Grandma and Grandad as Daddy and Mommy need to go to work. Friday we shall have to see how it goes! The chicken pox struck last Friday so maybe her spots will have scabbed over and dried up by then, so she will be no longer contagious and we are hoping she may be able to attend nursery by then, as it is the Easter bonnet parade, and it would be such a shame if she were forced to miss it. I had a text off her Daddy this morning to say she is feeling a little better, her spots are drying up and she is eating again which is a huge relief as she goes off her food when she is poorly, and she has been poorly quite a few times since she was born ten weeks premature just over two and a half years ago. She is tall for her age, as the rest of us are, and very slim so she can barely afford to loose any weight so when she goes off her food it is a worry, especially as she does not always have the best appetite anyway.
Emma, Lee and Poppy all came round on Sunday afternoon and as the weather was quite pleasant we all took the dogs for a walk (well in my case ride on my mobility scooter) around the woods. Poppy loves going for her woodland walks, she really enjoys looking round for squirrels, birds and any other wildlife she may see and she will stop and stand for a moment, listening for the birds singing. She also sometimes cadges a lift on Grandmas mobility scooter when she will stand on the footplate, or sit on my lap, shouting faster Grandma, faster as we trundle at a heady 6mph along the woodland paths! The walk seemed to do her good for a while, and she was dancing around, but she soon showed that she was tired and Emma took her home for an early night.

Woodland outings.
Poppy was tired by 9am yesterday morning and clearly wanted to go to sleep, even though she said she didn`t! After a few cuddles and a short time lying on the sofa it was obvious she was not going to give in so I thought she might sleep better upstairs in bed and asked if she wanted to go and find her dollies. Within a few minutes she was standing at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for me to open the gate. She immediately started chatting to her dollies and lay down giving them a cuddle, within ten minutes she was fast asleep! Three hours later I heard a little voice calling "Grandma, I`m awake" so I went up to see her and she was chattering as soon as I walked through the door. She wanted to take her dollies downstairs so I carried them while she walked carefully down the stairs holding on to the bannister telling me "you have to be careful walking downstairs Grandma, then your safe."
Poppy sat her dollies on the sofa and chatted away to them, then turned round to me and cried "Grandma, I`m so so happy today." Bless her.
Peppa Pig accompanied lunch and Poppy ate very well then it was not very long until Grandad arrived home and Poppy remembered that I had promised a walk in the woods with the dogs when Grandad got home from work so we were soon putting on coats, boots and gloves. It was a bright but cold afternoon so we had to wrap up warm and it was nice to get out into the fresh air. Poppy loves walking through the woods, we often see other dog walkers who she says hello to, and if the dogs are ok she likes to stroke them, she listens for the birds and looks up into the trees to find squirrels, looks at the stream to see if she can find frogs or fish and really enjoys her outings. When we got back she wanted to play in the shed for a while, playing hide and seek with Grandad she counted to ten, called "ready or not, here I come" then pretended she did not know he was in the shed! "Grandma, is Grandad in the house?" No Pops, he is not in the house. "Grandma, is Grandad in the other room?" No Pops, he is not in the other room. Big coughs from Grandad, indicating he is actually in the shed. Poppy ignores him and looks down the path at the side of the house asking if he is by the gate. She eventually put him out of his misery and opened the shed door calling "found you Grandad!!" After twenty minutes or so they decided to come into the house as it was getting cold, and so we had a drink to warm up.
We had pizza for tea but just as we were starting to eat Poppy spilt a little of her drink on herself so I rushed to get her into dry clothes, putting my back out in the process! Emma arrived home from work shortly afterwards and Poppy was delighted to see her Mummy, throwing her arms up for a big cuddle.
I am now resting my back and hoping it will improve for the weekend.

What better welcome could you wish for?
It was very cold and snow was in the air yesterday when Poppy was here, prompting her to ask could she play out in the snow, please Grandma! I had to stand her on the footstool by the window to show her snow was not on the ground, just floating around in the air, making it look, and feel, really cold outside.
She was very chattery (is that a word?) She told me her Daddy was chased by a big spider in the garden and he ran into the house. He was not scared of the spider though. According to Poppy her Daddy is afraid of nothing ! Not even crocodiles!
We built a big tower with her bricks, did some magic painting (remember those books you paint just with water and colour appears as if by magic?) They don't work quite the same when she wants to redo the same picture over and over! Played with the dolls house for a while then I could see she was getting tired, this was confirmed when she asked "can I sit on your lap for a cuddle Grandma?" How could you refuse a request like that? I put Room on the broom on TV for her, and we sat quietly having a cuddle until she fell asleep. Had a bit of a struggle to get up, staggered to the sofa, lay her down and covered her with her blanket.
I phoned my big sis to see how she was doing, as she is not too well, then I made some soup and peeled the veg for our evening meal before realising I had got nothing out of the freezer to eat it with! Good old sausages!
Pops slept until 12.30 and woke asking me where her tooth had gone! (It got knocked out when she fell over a few months ago!) I explained that a new tooth would grow when she was a bit older and she accepted my explanation, moving quickly on to all kinds of different subjects, telling me about playgroup, her friends at nursery and her child minders, her cousins and insisting that Lily is her best friend.
Poppy ate her lunch while watching Pippin and keeping up a running commentary about what Pippin the dog was doing on screen, then Jill and Hannah arrived to visit, causing Poppy to rush and hide beside the chair calling "you can't find me". She then wanted to play with Grandads iPad and sat with Hannah showing her the different games she can play, which amazed Hannah that a 2 year old can use an iPad!
Grandad got the road mat out when he arrived and crawled round the floor playing cars while I sorted tea. Poppy decided at one point that he was too old to crawl on the floor and told him to sit on the chair and be quiet! She said they were at playschool!
My mothers day cards were of great interest to Poppy who told me she was reading her newspaper, and that it was very interesting and important. Where she gets all the big words from I don't know! At 2 she has a huge vocabulary.
Poppy flew to her mommy with her arms open wide ready for a hug when Emma arrived to fetch her, what better welcome could you wish for?

Thoroughly spoilt.
Mothers Day yesterday as you will know, if you live in the UK. Apparently it happens on different dates elsewhere.
I was thoroughly spoilt, Steven arrived first of all, straight from work, with a card, some beautiful flowers and a box of Black Magic chocolates, yum. My own Mom loved Black Magic, and they always make me think of her, so it was quite appropriate. I had only said that morning to Graham what I would have bought for her, and then Steven walked in with a box. Great minds...
Steven had only just driven away, off home for a nap having been at work since 5am, when Emma arrived with a card from her and Lee and another off Poppy. I also got a "mum" charm for my bracelet which I added to it immediately and then added it to my wrist.
We had a chat and a cuppa then headed off to pick up Lee and Poppy to have a meal at the Golf club, booked by Lee. They were both asleep on the sofa when we arrived so Lee rushed upstairs for a quick change and Em brushed Pops hair for her, adding a pink hair bobble and two sparkly slides.
"Your hair looks beautiful Poppy".
"Yes, I know Grandma!"
The meal was a carvery, very tasty, and Emma and I got a pink flowering plant to take home each. Poppy told me my flowers were beautiful.
Lily was round at our house so Emma, Lee and Poppy arrived back with us to fetch her, Emma stopping for a cuppa with Poppy while Lee sneaked off to the pub to "watch the end of the football".
Emma got 3 cards from Pops, two handmade and one from the shops, and some lovely flowers.
Two Mummies, thoroughly spoilt.
My kids are great. x
