Technology and a 2 and a half year old.

Daddy bought an ipad, Grandad had a tablet for Christmas (which Poppy calls an ipad though its a different kind) and much to our surprise Poppy knows how to use them! They had been to the pub round the corner for tea on Saturday, following the very quick visit to the Sealife Centre in Birmingham (Poppy rushed them round wanting to see everything in double quick time, and particularly wanting to see the giant turtles) After they had tea at the pub Emma and Poppy arrived at our house to collect Lily, and the first thing that Poppy said was "can I have a go on Grandads ipad Grandma?" She then proceeded to flick through the different apps and chose the puzzle game she likes to do, whizzing through the puzzles with no problem at all. She can do them so easily now that I have been searching for puzzles which are a little bit harder, but not to hard that she would be unable to manage them. Consequently I downloaded a few and then had to play them to see if they were suitable for Poppy to use, discarding some which had adverts popping up every couple of minutes and others which were much too hard so I deleted them again. At the rate she is going she will be playing the word games I like soon and beating me into the bargain! Who would have thought technology meant for adults would be so appealing to a little child who should be playing with her toys! I don`t mind letting her play with the tablet on occasion, when she is tired and needs to chill, but I like to see her playing with traditional toys and jigsaws, and running and jumping around like a child should.

Visit to the boys.

On Wednesday morning we went over to visit Michelle and her three very lively boys, Ryan, Rhys and Owen. Poppy was excited and had been asking to see the boys for a couple of days, and she was doubly excited when we asked Jill if she wanted to go with us too. She chattered all the way and we actually thought we would arrive with Poppy still awake but she managed to fall asleep as we pulled into their road! Not that she was asleep for long when the lads rushed out of the house to greet us!
A lively fun filled hour followed, the farm set was out waiting much to Poppys delight, and the boys were as usual, very attentive towards her. She wasn`t very pleased when one of them shut her in the kitchen, and was standing in "cross" pose, arms crossed, when Michelle went to rescue her! We left when it was obvious Poppy was getting really tired, and sure enough she fell asleep almost immediately as we drove away and Emma managed to get her carefully out of the car and lay her down to sleep her fill. Two hours later when she woke up her first thoughts were of the lovely time she had enjoyed with Ryan, Rhys and Owen, I think the admiration is mutual! Big kiss lads. xxx

I love you Poppy, I love you grandma .

I never realised that a two and a half year old would be able to work an i pad! To be exact its not an I pad we have in our house, its a nexus 7, but she knows the word i pad from home as daddy just bought one so she calls grandads tablet an I pad. I downloaded some games for her so she was very busy painting, making patterns, doing jigsaws, matching shapes and pictures and to my amazement she was very good at doing all these things.  It took her only a few minutes to learn which buttons to press, and what to do with the various programmes, she was moving the shapes around easily to complete the jigsaw pictures and really concentrating on her tasks.  Who would have thought such a little girl could do this?
We all had our hair cut on Sunday, courtesy of the lovely Rachel Roberts, Poppy included, and so Pops now has a fringe. She was very good and sat still to let Rachel trim her hair for which she was rewarded with a jelly snake. She looks very cute with her new hair do and it makes her look a bit more grown up, not that anybody wants her to grow up more quickly, children seem to grow up too fast these days.
I put The Gruffalo on TV for her to watch yesterday while she ate her tea, she did very well with her eating which is great to see as she does not always have a good appetite, afterwards she wanted to sit on my lap to watch the end of the programme and she kept kissing my arm! I said thank you for the kiss I love you Poppy and she melted my heart when she said yes I love you grandma. Makes it all worthwhile :-)

Well done Poppy! xxx

When a child born before 32 weeks gestation reaches the age of 2 and a half they are called for an assessment to see how they are progressing.

Poppy had her assessment last week, Em took her and had been told it could take up to 2 hours to complete. Little did she think they would be at the centre for the whole 2 hours! Poppy did so well that she actually finished the assessment, infact the doctor had to ask Poppy to play with a toy for a short time so she could read through the end of the booklet as no child had ever got so far before! Well done Pops, you did great! x

We bought her some play dough a couple of days ago and Grandad and I were playing with her. The set included rolling pin, cutters, moulds, things to push the dough through and achieve different shapes, tools to cut the dough with and 4 different coloured doughs. Grandad was told in no uncertain terms that no, he could not use her rolling pin, and that he had to be very quiet! Thats you told then Grandad!

We got 4 new library books, Poppy was delighted that one of them is Room on the broom, she loves the programme of the book which was on tv over christmas. Twice I had to read each book, and she loves it when I do a different voice for each character! My throat feels a little tired this morning! The trouble is I tend to forget which character has which voice!

Poppy had me helping build a house with her bricks, the little people who live in the dolls house then visited the new house which we had built. She was chattering away, being the little people, when I realised they were actually visiting the three bears cottage! Poppy loves her role play!
